Choir concert a huge success
One of the highlights of the NSW Council?s active year was recorded when over 300 people of all faiths came together at Temple Emanuel Woollahra for an afternoon of music celebrating the shared traditions of singing the Psalms.
The ?Music of the Psalms” progam was devised and prepared by the Temple?s Musical Director, Cantor Joseph Toltz and was presented by the Australian Byzantine Choir, The Choir of Christ Church St. Laurence, which gave a thrilling performance of Psalms from the Anglican tradition, followed by a Lutheran setting by Mendelssohn's music. More enchanting music came from the Choir of St. Francis of Assisi and was followed by the final presentation made by the Emanuel Ensemble. Cantor Toltz said that the success of the function had encouraged him to discuss with the NSW CCJ the possibility of such a concert becoming an annual event.
Luncheon Club continues
The quarterly Christian-Jewish Luncheon Club meetings are continuing in 2005 with recent speakers including Rabbi Selwyn Franklin and Sr. Marianne Dacy who discussed the Talmud and the Church Fathers, respectively. Earlier this month, Moses Maimonides was presented by Rabbi Paul Lewin and Thomas Acquinas was discussed by CCJ vice president, Fr. Joseph Sobb, a leading Catholic academic and teacher.
